On 21 May 2012, a meeting between the Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin and the delegation of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) led by the Chairman Lyatif Guseinov. The parties constructively shared opinions on issues related to CPT activity and concerning the competence of the Russian Investigative Committee.
Namely, they discussed investigation of a number of criminal cases over abuse of official powers by law enforcement officials and observance of rights of convicts in confinement institutions in some of the Russian regions.
The negotiations were held in mutually understanding atmosphere. The parties expressed readiness to continue the dialogue.
