A new book about the August 2008 events in South Ossetia published

On the basis of a criminal case investigated by the Russia’s Investigative Committee the book “Code of tragedy: 08/08/08” (A white book about Georgian crimes against Russian peacekeepers and civilians of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in August 2008) was published.

The book contains evidence of participants of those tragic events, pictures and documents. All the materials are proofs of the crimes, committed by Georgia when its military forces attacked positions of Russian peacekeepers stationed in South Ossetia under a special international protection.

The materials in the book illustrate a picture of events in August 2008, which was restored in details by officers of the Russia’s Investigative Committee as a result of most careful examination of hundreds of incident scenes, interrogations of thousands of witnesses, analysis of results of about 600 forensic expert examinations and other investigating operations. The book also contains reportages of eye witnesses – journalists of leading media, who were on the spot at that moment. The pictures provided in the book give visual presentation on what kind of weapons Georgian forces fired at Russian peacekeepers and local civil people and on the chances for the victims to save themselves.

The book also presents position of some foreign media which allows forming an understanding of how not only the war campaign, but the accompanying information war was held. The reader can follow stage by stage chronology of armed aggression, assess the events impartially, including in terms of international law and realize the size of the tragedy.

The new book is published in Russian, English and French languages.
