Investigators petition for longer arrest terms for 7 former officers of Dalny police station

The Republic of Tatarstan investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues the procedure of familiarizing the victims with the materials of a criminal case initiated against 8 former officers of Dalny police station. Depending on the role of each, the policemen are charged with crimes under article 286 (exceeding official powers) and part 4 of article 111 of the RF Criminal Code (inflicting a grave injury resulting in death of a victim).

The term for investigation has been extended until 11 March 2013.

Today an investigator has filed a motion to the court to extend the arrest terms for 7 former officers of Dalny police station until 13 March 2013. Another of the accused is under a written undertaking not to leave the place and to behave properly. Nobody of the former policemen has pleaded guilty.

During the investigation there were 87 expert examinations carried out, more than 200 witnesses interrogated and a large number of other necessary investigating operations were carried out. 17 criminal cases were filed into a single lawsuit. The criminal case includes 60 volumes.

Criminal proceedings against the ninth offender – former Chief of Dalny police station 45-year-old Ilgiz Akhmetzyanov was severed into a separate lawsuit in connection with his illness.

Earlier the court had listened to a case against former district police officers of Dalny police station – Ilshat Garifullin, 25, and Ramil Nigmatzyanov, 37. The court had found them guilty of a crime under part 1 of article 286 of the RF Criminal Code (exceeding official powers) and sentenced Garifullin and Higmatzyanov to 2.5 and 2 years in prison respectively.
