Statement of Russia’s Investigative Committee in connection with arrest of Alexey Kuznetsov

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee on 24 June 2010 passed a resolution to prosecute the former first vice-chairman of Moscow Region Government – finance Minister of Moscow Region Alexey Kuznetsov as the accused of crimes under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Criminal Code (swindling by an organized group on an especially large scale), part 3 of article 174.1 (legalization of money and property obtained by criminal way) and to place him in custody as a pre-trial restraining measure. On 1 October 2010 he was out on an international wanted list and after the information that he had crossed the border of the Russian Federation was confirmed, on 25 October 2010, he was put on an international wanted list.

In November 2012, during the General Assembly of the Interpol in Rome, the Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee held a meeting with the Interpol Secretary General Robert Noble, during which they discussed search and arrest of a number of subjects of criminal cases hiding from Russian law-enforcement, including Alexey Kuznetsov. Besides, in January 2013, there was a meeting organized between Alexander Bastrykin and head of French police to discuss the same matters. After those meetings the search for Kuznetsov was much more active.

In case Kuznetsov is delivered in the Russian Federation, he will be indicted and investigators will make every effort to finish the investigation as fast as possible.

To secure a sentence in civil action and possible confiscation the Kuznetsov property was arrested, including 8 pieces of land in Moscow Region, 2 flats in the city of Moscow and 2 cars.

Investigation of a criminal case against members of the organized group –Yelena Kuznetskova, Valery Nosov and Vyzcheslav Telepnyov is complete and at present they are studying the case.
