Criminal case started in Dagestan over murder of a newspaper reporter

Today at about 7 am an unknown man shot many times at a reporter from Novoye Delo newspaper Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, who was in his car in Yuzhnaya Street in the village of Semender, Kirov district, Makhachkala. Akhmednabiyev was died on the spot. The Republic of Dagestan investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into signs of a crime under article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder), article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms) and article 167 (deliberate destruction or damage of other’s property).

In 2012, Akhmednabiyev survived another attack, when the perpetraitors opened fire at his car, but he was not wounded.

Investigators are considering different versions of the crime, however, the priority one is murder connected with his professional activity.

At present an investigative group is working at the scene. Investigating and search operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime and a person involved in it. Medical forensic, ballistic and medical criminalistics expert examinations have been assigned.

It should be noted that investigating criminal cases over crimes against journalists are one of the priority areas of activity of the Investigative Committee. There is a conception on additional measures of organizing investigations of such crimes. Criminal cases over crimes against journalists are under special control of top officials of the Investigative Committee.
