Experienced investigators of Central Office of Russia’s Investigative Committee sent for practical aid in investigation into collision of passenger motor vessel and barge in Omsk Region

A passenger motor vessel Polesie-8 and a barge collided at 1,843rd km of the Irtysh River, 10 km off the city of Omsk, on 17 August 2013, at about 1:20 PM. The West Siberian Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has started a criminal investigation into the fact containing signs of a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety rules for traffic and operation of internal water transport involving by negligence death of two or more people).

The motor vessel Polesie was traveling from Omsk to Achir. Near the village of Novaya Stanitsa it collided with the barge and sank. There were 53 people aboard the motor vessel. 4 people were killed, 49 were injured, including 6 minors. Among the injured 15 people, including 1 child are in grave condition.

The captains of both vessels have already been questioned, at present investigators are working on eyewitnesses and are seizing technical documents.

On the order of the senior officials of the Russia’s Investigative Committee experienced investigators including criminologists of the Central Office have been sent to Omsk Region to provide practical aid in the investigation. Investigation is ongoing.
