In Leningrad Region investigating operations finished against hitman who killed main architect of Vasevolzhsky district Eduard Akopyan

The Leningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee carry on investigating a criminal case into the murder of head of architecture and town building office of Vsevolzhsky municipal district.

A criminal investigation against a hitman 36-year-old Dmitry Baranov from Vyborg has been severed from this case into a separate lawsuit. He is charged with a crime under paragraph “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder for hire), part 1 of article 222 (illegal purchase and storage of firearms).

According to investigators, in the evening of 29 January 2013 Akopyan arrived at the Vsevsad office to meet his wife after work. Baranov had tracked Akopyan and was waiting him outside the office located in house No 184 in Koltushsky Shosse in Vsevolzhsk, Leningrad Region. When Akopyan was leaving the office the defendant shot him in head and fled the scene. Baranov was apprehended at the airport before leaving Russia. It has been found that the accused acted on hire, he studied the victim’s day schedule, time and routs of his movements.

During the investigation Baranov confessed to the crime and requested his case to be tried in a special order.

At present all investigating operations against Baranov have been finished and there is enough evidence to make an indictment. The accused and his defender have started studying the files of the case.
