Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee meets Minister of Public Security of Israel

Meeting between Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin and Israeli Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch has been held in the Russia’s Investigative Committee. The meeting was attended by Chief of Tel Aviv district police Benzi Sao, Chief of Headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security Udi Shelvi and spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security and Police of Israeli State in Russia David Grunin. From the Russian part the meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Pavel Barkovsky, First Deputy Head of International Legal Cooperation Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Oleg Mikhaylov and Deputy Head of the Main Forensic Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Ivan Streltsov.

Opening the meeting, Mr. Bastrykin noted that Russia and Israel were tied by longstanding and solid relationships based on friendship and mutual respect. Cooperation between the Russia’s Investigative Committee and law enforcement of Israel in the field of criminal proceedings carries on its swift development. One of the fundamental instruments of efficient partnership is the Memorandum on Cooperation signed in November 2012 between the Russian Investigative Committee and Israeli Police. According to Mr. Bastrykin this historical document opened before the two agencies certain prospects, allowing personnel of the competent bodies of the two countries to work openly and constructively.

In addition, the leaders of the two agencies noted that at present the vector of crime shifted towards economic crimes. Mr. Aharonovitch said that Israeli Police had a special unit to fight financial crimes and that it acted in close cooperation with financial intelligence and financial institutions of Israel.

At the conclusion of the constructive dialogue the parties expressed willingness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation, including matters of developing updated program of bilateral cooperation between the two agencies.
