Investigators identify suicide bomber who committed terrorist attack near police department in Tabasaransky district in Dagestan

During the investigation of the terrorist attack near the district police department in the village of Khuchni in Tabasaransky district, the Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Dagestan has fixed a number of analyses including the DNA to identify the suicide-bomber. According to the results of the DNA test the suicide-bomber was a 25-year-old resident of the village of Kushtil in Khivsky district Azim Mukailov.

According to investigators, on 23 September 2013, at 8 AM in the village of Khuchni, Tabasaransky district Mukailov in VAZ-2107 rammed through the fence and broke into the court of the district police department, then he set off an explosive device planted in the car. Two police officers were killed in the explosion, 16 people including civilians were delivered to hospitals with different injuries. The buildings of the police station and migration service and cars parked nearby were badly damaged. According to preliminary information the power of the bomb was more than 70 kilos of TNT.

The investigators have information that Mukailov was a member of an illegal armed group “DTG Yuzhnaya”. Being a member of the gang he tried to kill a medical assistant of 102nd brigade of internal troops of the Russian Interior Ministry Abdulla Ramazanov on 29 December 2011, in June 2012 he killed Tagirov, the head of rural settlement the village of Lyakha in Tabasaransky district and was put on the federal wanted list. In addition, the investigators are checking Mukailov on involvement in other serious and especially serious crimes, including acts of terrorism and extremism.

At present investigating and search operations are underway to find the persons, who organized the attack and other involved people. Investigation is ongoing.
