In St. Petersburg local resident found guilty of killing her daughter

A court has found the evidence gathered by the investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for Saint-Petersburg sufficient to convict 19-year-old Alyona Ipatova. She was found guilty of a murder and failure to raise a minor (paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 105 and article 156 of the RF Penal Code).

The court and investigators have found that on 14 January 2014, Ipatova left her 5-month-old daughter alone in a flat in Prospelt Veteranov. The girl’s body was found on 27 January 2014. She had starved to death. The investigators also found that in the period between when she had left her daughter in the flat and she had been detained by the police, the young woman had been drinking alcohol with her acquaintances.

The district administration considered the request filed by the investigators to eliminate causes and conditions contributing to the crime and took a number of disciplinary measures against responsible medical employees, who had failed to discharge their duties properly.

The court has sentenced Ipatova to 12.5 years to be served in a minimum-security penal colony.
