In Irkutsk Region suspect of killing girl arrested

The Russia’s Investigative Committee has identified and detained a man suspected of killing a 6-year-old girl, whose burnt remains were found in early June on the outskirts of the town of Zima, Irkutsk Region.

An investigating team of the most experienced senior officials and employees of the regional investigations directorate and crime detection office, territorial law enforcement bodies worked each day for several months. Specialists of central offices of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Interior, child psychologists, memory activating specialists joined the investigation as well.

Aeveral thousands of people were questioned, tests were run in regional facilities, in Moscow and Novosibirsk. Over a thousand people were checked on involvement in the crime. As a result a suspect was detained on 28 September. It is a 21-year-old resident of a town in the Irkutsk Region. It has also been found that in spring 2014 the man committed several sex crimes against children. All criminal cases over those crimes have been joined in a single proceeding.

The suspect has been charged with crimes under paragraphs “c” and “j” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of a child aggravated by rape), paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 132 (sex crimes committed against a person under 14 years of age). At the request of the investigators a court has ruled to remand the accused in custody pending the trial. The investigation is ongoing.
