In Altai Territory preliminary investigation launched in death of Great Patriotic War veteran – victim of fraud

On 11 May 2015, a 92-year-old woman, who was the victim in the criminal investigation in a fraud with her flat, died at her home. Altai Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have started a pre-investigating check.

It is known that the woman had been suffering from cancer for a long time before death.

Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of her death. A procedural decision will be made following the check.

There is an ongoing investigation into a fraud aimed at selling the veteran’s flat. The charges of a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud on a very large scale) was pressed against two employees of a real estate agency in Barnaul, one of whom was remanded in custody pending trial and the other concluded a pretrial cooperation deal and was released on recognizance.

According to investigators, in early March 2015, in the town of Barnaul, the veteran had learned from representatives of a facility managing company that her flat had been sold by strangers. But the woman had not signed any agreement.

At the present time investigative and search operations are underway to gather and consolidate the evidence. In addition, the investigators have revealed that the accused were involved in other cases of illegal selling of property. The investigation is ongoing.
