In Saint-Petersburg investigation against members of organized group charged with insurance crimes finished

Saint-Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against CEO of a company Dmitry Babarygin, former inspectors of traffic police of Moscow District Office of the Interior Ministry Igor Ponomaryov and Denis Dukach, former employee of an insurance company of Northwestern branch of OOO Group Renaissance Insurance Alexander Filippov, former expert appraiser of a company Konstantin Zhemchuzhin and Roman Smolyakov. Depending on the role of each one, they are charged with a number of crimes under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code, part 4 of article 159.5, part 1 of article 285, part 1 of article 286, part 2 of article 292 (fraud, including one in the area of insurance, abuse of power, abuse of office, forgery).

According to investigators, in the period between January 2011 and August 2013, Babarygin, whose company was engaged in repairing cars, received information that there was a car damaged in a car crash and passed it on to Smolyakov, who then insured the car an undamaged one. Then Dukach and Ponomaryov made documents confirming that the car had been in an accident. Appraise Zhemchuzhin made documents and gave them to Smolyakov or Babarygin, who in turn filed them with insurance companies where Filippov ensured that the company paid insurance. In all, the culprits committed 13 frauds worth over 8 million rubles.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence so the criminal case has been sent for the indictment to be approved.
