Probe into collapse of apartment building in Yaroslavl passed on for further investigation to central office of the Investigative Committee

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has ordered that a criminal case opened into a crime under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (fulfillment of works or rendering of services that do not meet safety standards) should be passed on to the first department of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee for the fullest, impartial and quickest investigation. Following the Chairman’s instructions, investigators and criminalists of the Central Office who have experience in investigating similar incidents, have been sent to Yaroslavl Region.

According to preliminary information, a gas explosion happened in a five-floor apartment building in 6th Zheleznodorozhnaya Street in Frunzensky District of Yaroslavl at 4:20 AM, 16 February 2016. All 5 floors of the 4th section of the building collapsed. Three dead bodies have been pulled out from the debris, including two children, and three injured people have been taken to a hospital. The search operation is ongoing.

At present, an investigative team is examining the scene. The investigators are searching the company that maintained the building and are confiscating documents. They are identifying and questioning the witnesses of the incident and conducting other investigative and procedural operations. All possible measures will be taken to establish the reasons for and conditions that contributed to the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
