According to preliminary information, a gas explosion happened in a five-floor apartment building in 6^th Zheleznodorozhnaya Street in Frunzensky District of Yaroslavl at 4:20 AM, 16 February 2016. All 5 floors of the 4^th section of the building collapsed. Three dead bodies have been pulled out from the debris and three injured people have been taken to a hospital. The search operation is ongoing, while the tenants are being evacuated. The Yaroslavl Region authorities of the Investigative Committee have opened an investigation into a crime under Part 3 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (fulfillment of work or rendering services that do not meet safety standards).

At present, an investigative team of the Yaroslavl Investigations Directorate is examining the scene. The investigators are searching the company that maintained the building and are confiscating documents. The investigation is ongoing.
