A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Sverdlovsk Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 30-year-old resident of the town of Alapayevsk Anton Zlygostev. He was found guilty of a crime under Part 2, item “c” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of a minor known to be in a helpless state).

The court and investigation have revealed that on 4 August 2015, the accused after talking to his ex-wife who had refused to get back together with him, took their five-year-old daughter from a kindergarten. He came to his flat in Komsomolskaya Street in Alapayevsk drunk and intoxicated and drowned the girl in a bathtub.

Not long before he completed the murder, the man had called his wife and told that if she would refuse to get back together with him, he would take from her the most precious she had. Than he hung up and the worried woman called a relative of hers and asked to go to her ex-husband and see what was happening. The relative arrived at the flat and saw the killed girl in the bathtub. Zlygostev was detained on the same day despite his attempts to escape from the police or even kill himself. He confessed to the crime.

The investigators assigned a whole number of forensic inquiries, including psychiatric evaluation and a DNA test.

The investigators also paid great attention to find out the reasons and conditions that had contributed to the crime. They submitted a number of requests in prevention authorities, including the education department, stating that the teacher of the kindergarten had let the drunk father to take the girl. In addition, the regional authority of the Investigative Committee have opened and is investigating a separate case over negligence found in the actions of the officials of the prevention authorities, which, the investigators believe, had led to the tragedy.
