The Saint Petersburg Academy of the Investigative Committee has been established at the Saint Petersburg branch of the Academy. Chairman of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev supported the idea and signed the order.
The Academy will run higher education and additional professional education programs based on the federal state education standards. The Academy will accept citizens selected by the divisions of the Investigative Committee in the constituent territories of the Russian Federation and specialized investigative authorities set equal to them. The heads of the investigative authorities will send the files of the selected citizens to the Academy.
The second academy was needed because despite many different universities, the divisions of the Investigative Committee still lack highly specialized personnel. The Saint Petersburg Academy along with the one in Moscow will gradually provide the Investigative Committee with the staff who have professional expertise and skills in the area of Russian and foreign advanced investigative practice, efficient forms and methods of organization, technique and methodology of investigation, use of latest forensic equipment and different forensic inquiries.
It should be noted that the training of future employees of the Investigative Committee starts not at the Academy, but at the cadet school. There is the Alexander Nevsky Cadet School of the Investigative Committee in Moscow and a system of cadet classes in Saint Petersburg, Khimki, Stavropol, Murmansk, Vologda, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tver, Izhevsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Barnaul, Irkutsk and Sebastopol. Another cadet corps is planned to be created in Saint Petersburg.
