Official of Moscow tax service taken in custody on charges of grand bribery

The Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee is carrying out an investigation against chief state tax inspector of Moscow tax inspectorate No 10 Yevgeny Petlevanny. He is charged with a crime under Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code (taking a bribe on a very large scale).

According to investigators, from August to October 2016, Petlevanny received from a representative of a company he was inspecting a bribe of 4 million rubles and 85 thousand euros in cash. For the sum the inspector had promised to bring down the sum of the tax payable from 100 million rubles to 20 million rubles.

Investigators, agents of the Federal Tax Service’s internal security division, Moscow Office of the Federal Security Service and Moscow Economic Security and Corruption Directorate caught he inspector red-handed while he was taking part of the bribe.

The investigators have searched the inspector’s flat where they confiscated some objects relevant for the probe and showing that the accused was involved in wrongdoings. Following a request of the investigators, a court has ruled to place the accused in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
