Man charged with killing child to stand trial in Kirov Region

The Kirov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation against Yevgeny Salangin, 27 charged with killing a 6-year-old girl (Part 2 of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, on the evening of 16 July 2016, the accused was visiting an acquaintance of his in his house located on the outskirts of the town of Kirov. Both men were drinking alcohol. Later in the evening a family of local residents with a girl arrived. While the adults were outside, the child was playing in the house. At some point, the girl’s parents noticed that Salangin was nowhere to be seen, as was the girl. The man had invited the girl to take a walk with him, took her to a nearby forest and killed her. Later, during the investigation, he said where to find the body. A forensic medical inquiry showed that the girl had died of suffocation. The accused was taken into custody for the period of the probe.

Different kinds of inquiries were run, including a forensic medical, DNA, chemical and psychiatric to find what had happened. The psychiatric evaluation showed that the man was fully able to appreciate his actions during the crime. The man pleaded guilty. The investigators restored every minute of the girl’s last day in detail.

They now have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.
