In Chelyabinsk Region, probe finished against local woman charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm to her three-month-old daughter

The Chelyabinsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation against a 34-year-old resident of the town of Miass, charged with crimes under Part 2, item “b” of Article 111 (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm to a child) and Part 2, item “c” of Article 158 of the RF Penal Code (larceny).

According to investigators, on 23 June 2016, a three-month-old girl was admitted to a hospital in the town of Miass with multiple injuries. A case over a crime under Part 1 of Article 118 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of grievous bodily harm by negligence) was opened then. An inquiry was run following which the bodily harm done to the girl was classified as grievous.

Considering this, the investigation was then taken over by the regional investigative authority which changed the charges to Part 2, item “b” of Article 111 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm to a child).

The investigators managed to discover that the baby girl had been beaten by her mother, who had then fled, but was caught. They also revealed that the woman was involved in stealing a purse in a hospital in January 2016.

The accused was taken into custody pending trial.

In 2004, the woman was jailed for killing her 1-year-old son. After having been released from jail she was deprived custody of her daughters she had in 2008 and 2009.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case has been referred to court.

During the probe, the investigators filed a request with the head of the Miass social protection service to eliminate the reasons and conditions that had contributed to the crime and to deprive her of custody of her 4-year-old son and three-month-old daughter.
