In Sverdlovsk Region, charges pressed against director of construction firm under probe into fatal collapse of roof at plane in Yekaterinburg

The Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee keeps investigating a collapse of the roof at a plant in the city of Yekaterinburg which killed and injured several people and has charged the director of the construction firm with crimes under part 3 of Article 109 (negligent homicide of two or more people) and Part 2 of Article 118 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of grievous bodily harm due to malpractice).

The roof of the PAO Kalinin Engineering Plant collapsed in one of its workshops on the afternoon of 9 November 2016. 4 workers were killed, while another 14 were injured.

The Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in a crime under Part 3 of Article 216 of the RF Penal Code (safety breach entailing death of two or more people by negligence). In the course of the probe the investigators have established that there was another crime committed – implementation of work that did not meet safety standards and entailed death of two or more people by negligence. An investigation was opened in a crime under part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code.

 

Further into the investigation, cases were opened over crimes under part 3 of Article 109 (negligent homicide of two or more people) and Part 2 of Article 118 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of grievous bodily harm due to malpractice).

All of the cases have been joined into a single lawsuit.

A 43-year-old resident of the city of Yekaterinburg was detained on 11 November. According to investigators he is the official director and actual head of two construction firms that repaired the roof of the plant in the summer and autumn 2016. The man has been charged today.

At present the investigation is ongoing with necessary operations underway to find out all the circumstances of the crimes and to give an impartial legal assessment of the detainee’s actions. The investigators are also checking if other individuals were involved in the crime.
