Probe launched in death of man at hospital in Kirzhach District, Vladimir Region

Following analysis of files of a check and media reports and orders of the Investigative Committee’s Chairman and head of the Vladimir Region Office of the Investigative Committee an investigation has been launched in the death of 39-year-old Sergei Makarov at Kirzhach District hospital qualified as negligence under Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 16 September 2016, the 39-year-old man was taken to the Kirzhach District Hospital with pneumonia. A doctor prescribed him treatment and the man immediately got some urgent procedures. The next day men treated at the same ward said that Makarov had left hospital on his own. His relatives reported him missing to the police who mounted a search. On 16 December 2016, Makarov’s body with no signs of violent death was found in the hospital’s basement by a staffer.

The probe was launched to see if the police did enough to find the man and assess the actions of the hospitals staff, as well as to look into other circumstances reported by mass media.
