A criminal case was opened over the wounding of a civilian as a result of targeted shelling by Ukrainian security forces

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to record the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare against the civilian population of Donbass.

According to the investigation, on December 23, 2021, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a targeted attack with the use of automatic grenade launchers on civilian infrastructure in the village of Alexanderovka of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, which resulted in the wounding of a 52-year-old civilian.

By shelling a populated area, Ukrainian soldiers intended to kill or seriously injure an unlimited number of civilians living in southeastern Ukraine and not participating in the armed conflict. The Ukrainian military officers had violated Protocol on cease-fire in southeast of Ukraine and Memorandum to it, as well as provisions of the Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War and Additional Protocol II to it.

Upon this fact a probe was launched into an offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Russia (use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare, banned by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

Investigative actions are underway to identify Ukrainian security officials involved in this and other similar crimes.
