The evidence collected by the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Volgograd Oblast has been recognized by the court as sufficient for sentencing Arsen Melkonyan, Anna Melkonyan and Arman Smbatyan. Arsen Melkonyan has been found guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 119 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (threat to kill), Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, negligently resulting in the death of the victim), his sister Anna Melkonyan has been found guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 33, Paragraph a, Part 3 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to intentionally inflict grievous bodily harm, dangerous to human life, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement), and her husband Arman Smbatyan has been found guilty under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, committed by a group persons by prior agreement, negligently resulting in the death of the victim).
The investigation and the court have established that on October 23, 2020, a conflict broke out between the parents of students in a school chat. The investigators interrogated all eyewitnesses and witnesses of the events under investigation, conducted expert research, obtained objective evidence that it was Anna Melkonyan, who instigated the use of force to sort things out, as she has been offended by messages in the group chat. First, she persuaded her husband, Arman Smbatyan, to take revenge on the offender: on the afternoon of October 23, 2020, he arrived at the place of work of the victim, Roman Grebenyuk, but he refused to go out citing being busy. Then Anna Melkonyan, using the messenger, began to provoke the victim. A few hours later, the meeting nevertheless took place, but by that time Anna Melkonyan had already persuaded her brother Arsen Melkonyan to act as the executor of the criminal plan. When the woman's relative inflicted mortal blows on Roman Grebenyuk, her husband, according to the role assigned to him, watched what was happening and was ready at any moment, if necessary, to take a direct part in the fight. Despite the medical assistance provided, Roman Grebenyuk died from his injuries in a medical facility.
By a court verdict, Arsen Melkonyan has been sentenced to 11 years to be served in a strict regime correctional colony, Anna Melkonyan has been sentenced to 5 years and 6 months to be served in a general regime correctional colony, Arman Smbatyan has been sentenced to 7 years to be served in a strict regime correctional colony.
