A criminal case against one of the Arctic Sea hijackers is sent to court in Moscow

The General Investigative Office of the Investigative Committee has completed the investigation of the criminal case against Dmitry Savins charged with a crime under part 3, article 227 of the Criminal Code (piracy).

Savins was one of the participants in an organized criminal group, who in early hours of 25 July, 2009 hijacked the vessel Arctic Sea, manned with a Russian crew.

During the criminal investigation Savins entered a guilty plea.

The criminal case along with the sentence approved by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia is sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
