Criminal investigation launched in Sverdlovsk Region into a group robbery of Chinese citizens resulted in death of one of them

On 21 December 2013, about 07:30 AM, on a stairwell in a residential building in 40 let Komsomola Street in the city of Yekaterinburg three unidentified men met citizens of China going out of a rented flat. Threatening to use force the perpetrators went upstairs to the flat, tied them up and beat them. One of the victims died on the spot as a result of his injuries. According to the preliminary information of the investigators the perpetrators stole from the flat 30 thousand rubles, 5 thousand yuans, a lap top, four mobile phones and jewelries and fled. The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in Sverdlovsk Region have launched a criminal case into crimes under part 4 of article 111 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate grievous bodily harm involving by negligence the death of a person) and part 3 of article 162 (robbery by illegal penetration into a house).

At present a number of operations are under way to consolidate the evidence and identify the suspects. The crime scene has been examined and a number of necessary expert examinations have been assigned.

It is also should be noted that at present the information spread in media a few days before that the robbery was committed using a gun and a stun gun is not confirmed by the materials of the investigation. In this view, the regional investigations directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee draws attention of media and the public that the official and that means truthful information on the pre-investigating checks and progress of criminal cases conducted by investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee can be provided only by the bodies of the Investigative Committee or by endorsement with them. In this connection the investigations directorate warns against spreading the information not coordinated with the investigation as it may be unverified or unreliable.
