In Leningrad region, contract killer of Vsevolozhsk district Chief Architect Eduard Akopyan will stand trial

Investigative agencies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Leningrad are continuing to investigate the murder of the Chief of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Vsevolozhsky municipal district.

A criminal case against 36-year-old Dmitry Baranov from Vyborg has been separated from this criminal case. He is charged with a crime under paragraph “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder for hire), part 1 of article 222 (illegal purchase and storage of firearms).

According to investigators, in the evening of January 29, 2013 Eduard Akopyan arrived at the Vsevsad office to meet his wife after work. Baranov had tracked Akopyan and was waiting him outside the office located at 184, Koltushskoye Shosse in Vsevolzhsk, Leningrad Region. When Akopyan stepped out of the office, the defendant shot him in the head and fled the scene. Baranov was arrested at the airport before leaving Russia. It has been found that the accused was hired, he studied the victim’s day schedule, time and routs of his movements.

During the preliminary investigation Baranov fully admitted his guilt and asked for the proceedings in a specific order.

Investigators have collected sufficient evidentiary basis. A criminal case against Baranov with the approved indictment has been sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
