In Volgograd, suspect in murder of schoolboy detained

Investigative agencies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Volgograd region are continuing to investigate the murder of a 10 -year-old schoolboy on September 2, 2013 (subsection "c" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code).

As a result of teamwork of investigators of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and field officers of the Regional Office of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, a suspect in the brutal murder of the boy was established within 24 hours. It appeared to be a 17 -year-old boy. He was detined September 3, 2013 at about 4 p.m., 200 kilometers from Volgograd, at a stationary traffic police checkpoint in Mikhailovsky district. The minor was immediately taken to the Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Volgograd region for urgent investigative actions. When questioned as a suspect, the detainee fully confessed to the crime, said that he was under the influence of toxic substances at the time of the offense.

According to forensic experts, the victim's death was the result of a traumatic brain injury. They have discovered at least 9 blows to the boy’s head. In addition, experts have concluded that the boy was sexually assaulted by the suspect. Given the evidence, the Investigative Agencies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Volgograd region have launched another criminal case in respect of detained on the grounds of an offense under subsection " b" of part 4 of article 132 of the Criminal Code ( sexual assault committed against a minor). Both criminal cases are consolidated into one proceeding.

Investigators have established that the suspect is from a dysfunctional single-parent family, and a vagrant. Since 2007, he has been registered in the juvenile division of the Interior Ministry.

At present, investigative actions are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The issue of remanding the detainee in custody is under consideration. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
