Investigation finished in Pskov against Man from Moscow accused of killing priest

Pskov Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a 27-year-old man accused of the crime under part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder).

According to investigators, on 3 August 2013, the 27-year-old man from Moscow, knowing that Pavel Adelgeym was a theologian and a popular priest, arrived in Pskov to ask him for help in healing. The victim out of sympathy and mercy agreed to help the man and let him stay in his house. On 5 August 2013, the man suffering from paranoid schizophrenia took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the priest in his heart. The victim died on the spot.

The psychological and psychiatric expert examination conducted during the investigation has shown that at the moment of the attack the man was suffering from mental disorder and not of sound mind.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence and the criminal case has been sent to court to decide on compulsory medical treatment.
