Accused of killing arbitrator of Chechen Republic and his friend to stand trial in Kabardino-Balkaria

The North Caucasus Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigating a criminal case against Isa Geroyev, born in 1984 and his brother Khamzat Geroyev, born in 1986. They are charged with the crimes under part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder), part 2 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms), part 4 of article 162 (robbery), part 2 of article 235 (stealing or damaging documents, stamps, seals or stealing documentary stamps, special stamps or marks of conformity).

According to investigators, on 8 October 2013 the Geroyev brothers were sitting in a café at the side of the federal motorway Caucasus near the village of Stary Urukh in Kabardino-Balkaria, when they saw a Toyota Camry, in which judge of Arbitrage of the Chechen Republic Adam Agakhadzhiyev and his acquaintance Isa Atayev were travelling. The brothers decided to get the car and cut its rear tire. They waited until the owners of the car left the café and went behind them on their car in the direction of the city of Nalchik. When Agakhadzhiyev and Atayev stopped to change the tire, the accused drove up to them, Isa left the car and shot the judge no less than three times in his head. After that he shot Atayev, who was trying to run away. Both of the victims died on spot as a result of their wounds. At that moment Khamzat Geroyev was watching the road. After the murder the brothers hid the dead bodies in a ditch, got the victims’ car and fled. After failing to sell the stolen car the Geroyev brothers took it to pieces and sold by parts. The brothers burned the rest of the car together with the victims’ documents and clothes at a dump on the suburbs of the town of Karabulak.

During this probe the investigators in the shortest time have conducted 4 examinations of the crime scene, questioned 170 witnesses, carried out 26 seizures of objects, assigned 47 forensic expert examinations. As a result, both of the accused were detained, confessed to the crime, showed where they had hid the murder weapon and the stolen car.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence and the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
