Investigative Committee achieves deportation of accused of sex crimes against minors from USA

Today Businessman Vladimir Letunov has been deported from USA. The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has a warrant to arrest him as a suspect in 9 counts of a crime under article 132 of the RF Penal Code (sexual abuse) and court ruled in absentia to take him in custody pending the trial.

According to investigators Letunov was involved in 9 sex crimes committed in Moscow and the Moscow Region in the period between 2007 and 2013. His victims were underage girls between 12 and 17 years of age. In each crime he used the same scheme: he followed the victim in the building, then in the lift and sexually abused them on a staircase. He threatened his victims with violence or murder.

In 2013, Letunov was caught on a CCTV camera, when following one of his victims into the building. On the initiative of the Investigative Committee his photo was published in media and 5 people recognized him. After that investigators searched his mother’s residence and took DNA samples. DNA tests found a match between Letunov’s DNA and the samples from the crime scene, confirming his involvement in the series of sex crimes.

Having learnt that his mother’s flat had been searched, Letunov decided to flee and in August 2013went to USA. The Russia’s Investigative Committee sent to the US competent bodies files confirming Letunov’s criminality. This allowed investigators to track him down in the US in a short period of time, organize constant monitoring of his movements and arrest him.

Basically the information provided by the Investigative Committee triggered Letunov’s deportation from USA. Letunov was transported under guard to the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow and there passed to the officials of the Russia’s Investigative Committee. In the near future he will be delivered to the investigator for investigating and procedural operations.
