Head of Angarsk detained in embezzlement investigation

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Irkutsk Region continue investigating a criminal case against Head of the town of Angarsk Vladimir Zhukov charged with a crime under part 4 of article 160 of the RF Penal Code (embezzlement of budgetary funds on an especially large scale).

According to investigators, Zhukov embezzled budgetary funds by setting bonuses to the acting mayor of Angarsk. This way, the official got from the RF budget about 1 million 300 thousand rubles.

Earlier, the investigators have searched the Angarsk administration and confiscated the documents interesting for the probe.

On 30 April 2014, the investigators out Vladimir Zhukov in a federal list of wanted. On 5 June 2014, he was held in the town of Volkovysk, Grodno District, Republic of Belarus. The investigators issued a warrant to prosecute him as the accused and a court ruled to place him in custody.

At present his extradition to the Russian Federation is under discussion. The investigation is ongoing.
