In Moscow Region criminal investigation launched in kidnapping of newborn from hospital

On 17 June 2014, a police station got a report from the head of the children’s department of Dedovsk town hospital that unidentified people had kidnapped a newborn boy born on 12 May 2014 from ward No 5. The investigating bodies of the Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into the crime under paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 126 of the RF Penal Code (kidnapping of a newborn baby).

The preliminary investigation has found that the baby had been at hospital since 20 May 2014, as biological parents refused him. Together with a boy there also was a girl born on 30.04.2014, whose parents also refused her.

The examination of the incident scene showed that anybody could get into the ward without obstruction. During the examination the investigators confiscated the baby’s things and copies of medical documents. The hospital staff were questioned to find possible witnesses of the kidnapping.

It was found that about 12:30 PM, there was a Caucasian solidly built woman with light brown hair, broad, round face, short hair, 165-170 cm high, on a staircase near the entrance to the children’s department. She was wearing a black or dark blue jacket with red patches, blue jeans, slippers on bare feet.

Before that the woman during a week had offered to provide free food and clothes for the children in the department, but had been rejected by the staff. A security officer saw a similar woman leaving the hospital premises through the gate with a baby in her arms.

At present all investigating and search measures are being taken to find the baby.
