Staff of Saratov Region Investigations Directorate congratulated war veteran on upcoming Victory Day

Traditionally, the staff of the Saratov Region Investigations Directorate of the Saratov region visited Great Patriotic War veteran Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik at his home on the eve of the Great Victory Day. Dressed in a military uniform with military decorations on it, Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik met the guests together with his children, grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Sitting at the festive table, the retired colonel shared his memories of life in the war and postwar years. Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik participated in battles near Stalingrad. This year he will celebrate his 90th birthday, but he still remembers the events of that time.

Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik got to the front at the age of 17. He received a draft notice from the recruiting office when he was studying at school. In November 1941, he was sent to the Vinnitskoye Infantry School and, in the summer of 1942, the 17-year-old student got in the infantry troops. Defending Stalingrad from German occupants, Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik and his fellow soldiers were surrounded. During the next offensive of the Nazis, he saw a wounded soldier, whose legs were badly damaged, on the battlefield. Together with his fellows, Nikolai Vasilyevich Sytnik tried to carry him to the trench, but was wounded in the arm. However, with a serious injury, he continued the fight, and after that was sent to the hospital.

Investigators presented flowers and a gift to the veteran, and heartily wished him good health and prosperity.
