The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region continue investigating a criminal case against the head of the Novgorod Region Department of the Federal State property Management Agency over a crime under part 3 of article 30, part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (attempted bribetaking on a very large scale).

A court has granted an investigator’s request and ruled to suspend the official from duty. To reason the request the investigator stated that being a suspect in a misconduct case, the head of the authority may use his official powers to obstruct prosecution.

According to the investigators, in April 2014, the official employed an acquaintance of his as his middlemen in order to hide the fact that he received a bribe of 7.5 million rubles from a representative of a commercial organization for making a decision on agreeing privatization of a land property in downtown Nizhny Novgorod. After receiving part of the bribe, the middleman was held by the operatives of regional office of the Federal Security Service and Main Office of the Ministry of the Interior.

At present investigative operations are underway to gather and consolidate the evidence.
