In Yekaterinburg criminal case opened over damage to another’s property within investigation in attack on emergency team

Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case over an attack of several young people on an emergency team (part 2 of article 116 of the RF Penal Code - battery out of hooliganism).

The incident took place early in the morning of 17 January 2015, in Titov street in the city of Yekaterinburg where the emergency team had arrived to attend a call on suicide committed by young man 23 years of age. . 4 people were injured in the attack, including a doctor, 54, two medical assistants and a driver.

All the attackers were identified the same evening and three suspects were detained. They are young people aged 19 and 26, including an elder brother of the young man who had committed a suicide. At present all three of them are suspects.

Also during the investigation it has been found that during the attack the young people damaged the ambulance car. An investigator of the Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 1 of article 167 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate damage of another’s property). The case has been joined with the battery case. The exact pecuniary damage is being established at the moment.

At the current time a number of necessary operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crimes, gather and consolidate evidence. One of the suspects, the 26-year-old man, has been placed in custody pending trial. The second suspect 19 years of age has been released on recognizance, the third one also 26 years of age, has signed a bond to turn up in the investigations office. Charges are expected to be pressed soon depending on the role of each one of them in the attack. The investigation is ongoing.

The investigating bodies also continue a pre-investigating check in the suicide of the young man aged 24, the call on which the doctors were attending when the attack happened. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
