On 13 February 2015, one of the federal TV channels broadcast a story that Nikolai Chikhachev, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, lives in a single-family house in the village of Altai, Altai District, Khakassia. The house has faulty heat supply, has no water supply, but according to the author of the TV story, local authorities do nothing to improve veteran’s living conditions.

Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Khakassia immediately launched a pre-investigating check into violations of the veteran’s housing rights.

At present investigators are identifying the responsible ones. During the check they are going to give a legal assessment to actions of officials responsible for execution of the federal legislation and other regulations concerning housing. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
