In Dagestan killers of journalist Malik Akhmedilov jailed

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by The North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Murad Shuaybov and Isa Abdurakhmanov. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder), part 1 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms) and part 5 of article 33, part 1 of article 105 (complicity in murder).

The court and investigators have found out that in the morning of 11 August 2009, Shuaybov was sitting at the back of the car Lada- 217230 Priora driven by his acquaintance Abdurakhmanov near a holiday house in dacha association Palmira in Leninsky district in the city of Makhachkala. When Malik Akhmedov, executive secretary of the Istina newspaper and editor-in-chief of the Sogratl newspaper, was passing by in his car VAZ 21124 Shuaybov shot at him two times from sawn-off hunting rifle. The victim died on the spot as a result of his wounds.

For a long time the accused had been hiding from investigators, but thanks to efficient investigating operations both of them were detained in 2013. Both confessed to the crime and told about the circumstances of the murder. According to Shuaybov he committed the crime because of personal conflict with Akhmedilov, who had allegedly spread the untruthful information that the accused had been the follower of Wahabiizm.

The court has sentenced Shuyabov to 10.5 years n and Abdrakhimov to 8 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
