Charges pressed against former head of abrogated Northwestern FD Main Office of Ministry of Interior

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched an investigation against former officials of the abrogated Ministry of the Interior Main Office for Northwestern Federal District, including Vitaly Bykov, concerning stealing 19.1 million rubles from the federal budget in the period between 5 and 14 May 2014, by embezzlement and misappropriation disguised as paying between 340 and 700 thousand rubles of bonuses to each of the former staff (part 4 of article 160 of the RF Penal Code).

As a result of joint investigative and search operations carried out together with the Main Office for Internal Security of the Russian Ministry of the Interior and Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region Office of the Federal Security Service, former head of the abrogated Main Office Bykov was detained in Saint-Petersburg on 13 May 2015. Today he has been charged with embezzlement on a very large scale.

Following a request filed by investigators a court has ruled to place Bykov in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
