In Yekaterinburg criminal investigation opened in incident in water park

In the afternoon of 28 May 2015, law-enforcement bodies of the city of Yekaterinburg received a report about an accident in the water park located in Shcherbakov street. According to the information the accident happened with a third-grade boy, 10 years of age, who was in the water park with his classmates. The boy choked with water. The boy was pulled out of water and taken to a hospital in Yekaterinburg, where he is now receiving necessary medical aid. Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched an investigation in a crime under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 238 of the RF penal Code (providing unsafe services entailing grievous bodily harm by negligence).

A team of investigators, criminalists and experts of the regional Investigative Committee has set off for the scene. Deputy Head of the regional investigations directorate is coordinating actions of the team on site. Police officers are also working at the scene.

The investigators are going to question the child’s parents, his classmates, teachers who had organized the visit to the water park, and representatives of the facility administration. In the near future a forensic medical expert examination of the victim will be assigned to assess the exact degree of damage. The investigators are going to request for the safety documents, identify officials responsible for the security of children in the facility and give principled impartial legal qualification to their actions (of omission).

The investigation is kept under control by the senior officials of the Sverdlovsk Region Investigations Directorate.
