In Komi Republic, tariffs service head arrested on suspicion of corruption

The Komi Republic authorities of the Investigative Committee continue an investigation against Head of the Komi Republic Tariffs Service Ilya Pervakov suspected of taking a bribe on a very large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code). Following investigators’ request a court ruled today to remand him in custody pending trial.

According to the investigation, in 2012, Pervakov and his wife signed a sales contract with a commercial firm and bought a flat worth more than 12 million rubles. Under the contract, the buyers committed to pay 7,060,000 rubles in installments at interest during next few years. In April 2014, following the instructions of the then Chairman of the Komi Republic Government Konstantin Romadanov the firm got money from representatives of organizations controlled by him which paid Pervakov’s debt. In exchange, Pervakov who was the head of the Tariffs Service was to patronize commercial organizations involved in heat and power supply and controlled by the bribe giver. Pervakov was detained on 4 March 2016.

While considering a request filed by the investigators to place the suspect in custody, a court took into account the gravity of the crime and agreed with the arguments presented by the investigators that the suspect might impede the investigation or escape from the investigative authorities, and arrested him for 2 months.

At present, investigative operations aimed at gathering and processing the evidence are continued. The investigation is ongoing.
