Investigators hold suspect day after teenage girl killing in Volgograd

The Volgograd Region Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation into the murder of a 15-year-old school girl, whose body was found on 3 October 2016 in a refuse bin in Krasnoarmeysky District of Volgograd. The probe was opened over a crime under Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder) and is involving most experienced investigators and criminalists of the regional investigative authority and best police operatives in the region.

Investigative and search operations are being coordinated by deputy head of the regional investigative authority and the progress of the investigation has been reported several times at briefings to the senior officers lf the agency.

Having processed all the evidence they have, investigators came to conclusion that the murder was committed in a flat located in immediate vicinity to the victim’s building, most likely, in a flat in her building. Investigators had to go around every flat in the building.

The investigative team identified and apprehended a suspect on 5 October 2016. It is the girl’s neighbor who has been previously convicted multiple times of drug dealing, robbery and car theft. On 2 October 2016, the intoxicated man met the girl on the stairwell and lured her into his flat by asking to help him about the house. As soon as she entered into the flat, the man locked the door and broke the lock so that the victim could not get out. He then raped her and strangled. He hid the body under a sofa and then threw it in the refuse bin at night.

By now the man has already confessed to the crime and is now taking part in investigative operations to consolidate the evidence. The investigators are getting ready a motion to a court to place the suspect in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
