The Samara Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in an attempted murder of a police officer and murder of his wife under Part 2, item “g” of Article 105 and Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2, items “a” and “g” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on the night of 11 December 2016, the chief of the Otradny town police department and his wife came back home in the settlement Smyshlyayevka, Volzhsky District, Samara Region to find there four masked men who then attacked them.

The police officer came round today’s morning and called an ambulance. However, doctors were unable to save his wife who sustained severe wounds, including a chopped wound to the head. The man is now being treated for a head injury.

An investigative team continues working at the crime scene, they are examining the house and carrying out other investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to identify witnesses. Investigative and search operations are underway to find suspects. Motives of the crime are being looked into.

The progress of the probe is under special control of the Samara Region Office of the Investigative Committee. The investigation is ongoing.
