Investigators request to arrest suspects of attacking police officer’s family in Samara Region

The third department (based in the city of Nizhny Novgorod) of the RF Investigative Committee’s Head Office continues the investigation opened into the murder of Yekaterina Vashurkin and attempted murder of her husband – chief of Otradny Police Department Dmitry Vashurkin by a group of people (Part 2, item “g” of Article 105, Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2, items “a” and “g” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code).

62 investigators and criminalists from of the Investigative Committee’s Central office and Samara Region office are now looking into the crime.

The investigators are requesting courts today to take suspects of the crime: Daniil Yeltishev, Andrei Permyakov, Vitaly Yarankin, Ernst Yatsunenko and Kristina Chistyakova into custody pending trial. Soon they are going to be charged.

According to investigators, on the night of 11 December 2016, Dmitry Vashurkin and his wife came back to their house in the settlement of Smyshlyayevka, Volzhsky District, Samara Region and were attacked by a group of people who had been waiting for them inside. The woman died of wounds, including a hacked wound to the head. The police chief came round next morning and called an ambulance who took him to a hospital. At present he is in a hospital with a head injury. As for the motive of the attack, one of the versions put forward at the primary stage of the investigation is being proved true - that it was a robbery-gone-wrong murder.

The suspects are being questioned. All of them are being checked on having been involved in other similar crimes. The check of their testimonials has been carried out on the scene of crime during which a presumable murder weapon has been found – an axe. It has been sent to specialists for examination. In addition, the investigators have found the police officer’s ID and his bank card.

The investigation is ongoing and its progress is under control of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee.
