In Krasnodar Territory, probe launched into crash of military plane

The Sochi Military Garrison Department of the RF Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in violation of rules of flight safety involving grievous consequences under Article 351 of the RF Penal Code after a crash of a Tupolev Tu-154 plane.

The plane was carrying out a scheduled flight to Syria with 84 passengers and 8 crew members aboard. The Tu-154 was lost from radars several minutes after taking off from the Adler airport where it had stopped for refueling. SAR services of the Russian Ministry of Defense and Ministry for Emergency Situations are combing the crash site.

A special team composed of investigators of the Sochi Military Garrison Department and forensic specialists of the Southern Military District Office of the Investigative Committee has been set up to look into the crash.  

All possible measures are being undertaken to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigators are confiscating the plane’s documents and questioning employees operating the flight, technical personnel who prepared the plane and refueled it.

The investigation is ongoing.
