In Saratov, probe launched in unlawful deprivation of liberty and attempted rape of paramedic

Following a check into media reports about unlawful deprivation of liberty and attempted rape of a paramedic the Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in crimes under Part 2 of Article 127, Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 2, item “a” of article 131 of the RF Penal Code.

On the Afternoon of 11 February 2017, the paramedic arrived on an emergency call to a flat in Shelkovichnaya Street in the town of Saratov to help a 29-year-old man who had high blood pressure. Besides the patient there were four more men inside. After the paramedic entered the flat, one of the men closed the door behind her and said that he wouldn’t let her out. The frightened paramedic went to a bathroom and managed to report the situation to a dispatcher of an ambulance service, who then passed the information to the police. The paramedic had to leave the bathroom when the men started threatening her with violence. Two of the men started trying to rape the woman and did not let her out the flat. The men’s actions were broken off by the police who promptly arrived at the scene.

At present, there is an investigative team of the most experienced investigators and forensic experts of the regional investigative authority working on the thorough investigation. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime. The perpetrators are expecting to be arrested now, while the investigation is ongoing.

As became known earlier, owing to attacks on medical workers which have recently become more frequent, Alexander Bastrykin has ordered that regional offices of the Investigative Committee must respond to any such instances and look carefully into all the circumstances and reasons that led to misconduct of citizens trying to assail people who save human lives every day.
