Resident of Dagestan to stand trial for funding terrorism

The North Caucasus Federal District Directorate of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against resident of Dagestan Renat Abdurakhmanov. He is charged with financing terrorism under Part 1 of Article 2015.1 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in May 2014, Abdurakhmanov, aware that a resident of Dagestan was intended to go to Syria via Turkey to join the ISIS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation, and gave the man 5,000 rubles so that he could buy a plane ticket to Turkey, this way helping the activities of the terrorist organization.

In July 2014, Abdurakhmanov continued his criminal activities helping the ISIS by financing it via a Russian bank branch. Using his passport he transferred 90,000 rubles to a bank card belonging to a resident of Stavropol Territory who also was an ISIS member.

The Dagestan Police Department and Stavropol Territory Office of the Federal Security Service charged both men with membership in an armed group and participation in an armed group in a foreign state with purposes that contradict interests of the Russian Federation under part 2 of Article 208 of the RF Penal Code.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case against Abdurakhmanov with the signed indictment has been referred to court.
