In Tuva, probe launched after media report on endangerment of elderly people and child

Following a check into reports of social networks and mass media the Tuva Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against a 31-year-old resident of Tere-Kholsky District suspected of endangerment under Article 125 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, the suspect left her 4-year-old daughter with her parents who lived in a remote area in Saldam-Beldir, Tere-Kholsky District. The woman was aware that her elderly parents were not able to ensure the safety of her daughter. On 8 February 2017, the grandmother felt unwell and the child had to go to get help to the nearest settlement. She had to walk 8 kilometers in taiga. The child was examined by doctors who found general hypothermia, however the child’s life and health are out of danger.

The investigators are also going to give legal assessment to the actions of guardianship services and juvenile authorities in Tere-Lkholsky District.

At present a number of investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is supervised by the senior officials of the investigative authority.
