Animal abuse case tried in court

The Industrialny Court of Khabarovsk has today started trying a case over animal abuse. The sixth department of the Investigative Committee’s Directorate (based in Khabarovsk) has charged two teenage girls from Khabarovsk and an 18-year-old man depending on the role of each one with animal abuse under Part of Article 245, robbery under Part 2 of Article 162, public blasphemy under Part 1 of Article 148 and hatred incitement under Part 1 of Article 282 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, from June to August 2016, two underage girls tortured and sadistically killed animals. Considering the impertinence of the teenagers during the probe, the investigators studied their personalities and life style and charged them with other crimes as well.

As was established, in 2015 and 2016, one of the accused girls posted on her page in VKontakte social network images and texts clearly expressing disrespect to the society and blasphemy. In addition, from March to October 2016, she together with another underage boy made and posted online a video containing disparagement of victim motivated by his belonging to a social group. On 28 July 2016, the accused girls robbed a man from Khabarovsk.

The investigators collected enough evidence so the indictment was signed and the case was referred to court.

Those crimes took a short time to be solved. In less than 3 months the investigators carried out more than 400 investigative and procedural operations, including those in other regions, interrogated more than 150 people, ran 39 different forensic inquiries: a psychological one, psychological and linguistic, sociological, medical, veterinarian, situational, ballistic, DNA, and technical ones. The regional investigative authority filed 4 petitions with various agencies to eliminate the reasons for and contributing factors of the crimes.
