Investigative authorities got a report on 10 May 2017 that a 3-year-old child was killed when the ceiling and a wall collapsed in a two-floor apartment building in Vokzalknaya Street in the settlement of Askiz, Askiz District. The Khakassia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation negligent homicide under Part 1 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, the collapse happened on 9 May 2017 in a flat occupied by a large family. A preliminary version of the incident is that the tragedy happened due to an explosion of an electric water heater in the bathroom. The child was going past the bathroom when the blast happened. There were 5 more children and 2 adults in the flat, but all of them were in other rooms this is why they got only minor non-fatal injuries.

The investigators together with criminalists have examined the scene, questioned eye-witnesses and the boy’s parents in order to find all the circumstances of and reasons for the incident. Necessary forensic examinations have been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
